This proogram WELCOME!
This will be an exciting year in 7th grade Science! First Nine Weeks Week 1/2 - Our year starts with activities that will help us in getting to know each other. (For you guardians, the program is from Educators' training Capturing Kids' Hearts philosophies, founder Flip Flippen.) We will also explore activities to help us understand the expectations of how we will learn and why we are learning the lessons presented to us. (These activities are motivated by the C.H.A.M.P.S. program, Randy Sprick, Ph.D.) Lastly, we will practice methods for learning that help us to develop confidence and intrinsic value for our own intellectual growth. (These activities will be varied but most are modeled in Teach like a Champion by Doug Lemov.) These techniques will enhance our MTSS, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. Week 2/3 - Measurement Olympics, CHAMPS, Capturing Kids' Hearts activities along with SAFETY in the SCIENCE LAB will be the main focus of this week. We will continue organizing our Science Journals and practice Safety while learning how to use the triple beam balance, glass wear, meter sticks, and practice the displacement method. A measurement and safety QUIZ is on Friday August 26, 2022 and is an open journal. Week 4 - This week begins with Journal Organization and Safety Checks. Demonstration will be performed to encourage discussion over the methods in which scientist approach research. We will explore the Three Types of Scientific Investigations; Descriptive, Comparative, and Experimental Labs. As the week ends, our focus will be on C.E.R., or Claim - Evidence- Reasoning. We will participate in demonstrations and experiments that exemplify Descriptive, Comparative, and Experimental methods of investigation and formulate those into claims. Week 5 and 6 - We will discuss LEVELS OF ORGANIZATION and look at The CELL THEORY. Once we have anchored those two sets of information, we will investigate the differences in the STRUCTURE and FUNCTION of Animal and Plant CELLS and the Organelles that assist the cell in survival. Week 7 and 8 - This week continues with 'Recognizing Cellular Structures and Functions of the Organelles' culminating in a Cell Project for a test grade. Scroll down to see what's next! |
